In 1986, a few confectioners were experimenting with candy creations when they stumbled upon something amazing. Employing a machine that looked very similar to the toys used to create long strips of Playdoh, these candy makers found that they could produce a scrumptiously sweet treat with a uniquely chewy texture. After deciding they had discovered something deliciously incredible, they decided to have hundreds of children taste-test the creation. Unsurprisingly, it was met with a resounding stamp of approval! These same kids also gave the candy its name — Airheads — and the classic treat was born. Take note, everyone: Occasionally, playing with your food can result in awesome consequences!
